Research on gender gaps in municipal transport: 70% of women believe that their profession is perceived as «atypical», 60% believe that working conditions do not take into account basic needs
In Ukraine, the She Drives project, with the support of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, presented the study «Gender Gaps in Municipal Transport» for the first time. The study focuses on analyzing the factors that cause gender gaps in municipal transport.
According to its findings, the study identified the main obstacles that hinder women's employment in this area:
▪️ 100% - Security factors related to a full-scale Russian invasion
▪️ 89% - indicated the lack of a gender-oriented social package
▪️ 89% - noted the influence of social attitudes
▪️ 78% of experts said that security issues are crucial when choosing a job
▪️ 67% - emphasized the lack of awareness among women.
MAPA took part in the event and spoke about women in the bus station sector. According to Alyona Veklich, Director of MAPA, it is quite common in Ukraine for a woman to own or manage a bus station, but of course the gender balance is tilted towards men.
«I hope that the study will give a large-scale impetus to all bus transportation sectors to implement and adhere to gender equality policies and establish mechanisms for recording and responding to cases of discrimination», — said Alyona Veklich.

The pilot project on training and employment of bus drivers is being implemented by the NGO “Foundation for Institutional Development” at the initiative of the Ministry of Development in partnership with UN Women in Ukraine and with financial support from Sweden.
