A law aimed at improving safety during the transportation of children under three years of age has come into force in Ukraine

On March 5, Law No. 4657-IX “On Amendments to Article 25 of the Law of Ukraine ”On Road Traffic“ regarding the parking of vehicles driven by drivers who transport children under the age of three and have a corresponding identification mark on the vehicle” came into force.

The document stipulates the obligation of owners of specially equipped or designated parking areas to ensure the allocation and arrangement of spaces in such areas for vehicles driven by drivers transporting children under three years of age and bearing the appropriate identification mark.

The number of such spaces shall be at least 5% of the total number of parking spaces, but not less than one space. They must be marked with an appropriate road sign or road marking.

The procedure for determining such areas, the requirements for the arrangement of parking spaces, their marking, as well as the procedure for confirming the right to park and installing an identification sign on a vehicle shall be determined by the CMU.

It is also envisaged that state authorities and local self-government bodies will facilitate the creation of separate parking spaces in parking lots for vehicles driven by pregnant women, elderly people, and veterans.
