In 2025, bus passenger traffic exceeded 8.5 million people

In 2025, more than 8.5 million people traveled abroad by bus. This was written by Deputy Minister of Development Serhiy Derkach on his Facebook page in the context of presenting the results of a passenger survey conducted by the ministry.

According to his data, in 2024, more than 8 million citizens crossed the border by bus.

In addition, international bus passengers spend an average of more than 4 hours at the border when traveling from Ukraine. Long waits in queues remain the biggest problem with such trips.

“The biggest problem is waiting at the border. The actual control procedures take an average of 1.5 hours, while the rest of the time is spent waiting in line,” Serhiy Derkach wrote.

He added that among the challenges for the ministry are improving the infrastructure of checkpoints and increasing comfort during long trips.

“Almost one in ten passengers cited uncomfortable conditions on the bus as a problem: the condition of the seats, the temperature in the cabin, or the overall level of service. A particular pain point for passengers is the availability of working toilets. In fact, half of all trips do not have them, even though passengers are willing to pay extra for them,” added the deputy minister.

Interesting information from the study:

  • Poland is the most popular destination (34%), with neighboring countries accounting for 54% of all trips.
  • The average ticket price is around UAH 3,268, but to Spain it can exceed UAH 6,000.
  • 53% of passengers buy tickets online, confirming the rapid digitization of the market, and 20% pay cash on buses.
  • 34% of people travel from another city to board an international bus, which adds almost 7 hours to the journey.
  • The average waiting time and border control time has decreased from 7.1 to 4.7 hours.
  • Passenger satisfaction has increased from 67% to 82%.
