The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development plans to digitize bus route passports

The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development plans to generate bus route passports online. This was announced by Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach during a meeting with bus station owners.

“Today, route passports are in paper format, they are outdated, with seals and incomprehensible printed maps. The law on road transport states that a carrier must have a route passport, so we cannot move away from it today. However, we will simplify everything and in the future route passports will be generated online,” said Sergiy Derkach.

He also noted that carriers have already started installing GPS trackers on buses used on routes. This will help eliminate illegal and unscrupulous carriers.

“All domestic bus routes that will be opened will have a mandatory requirement for carriers to install a GPS tracker on the bus... We are now working on developing a GPS monitoring system for all buses. In the future, all buses in Ukraine will be monitored... This will additionally force bus stations not to allow illegal carriers to operate. I would like to remind you that all transportation in Ukraine must be licensed and official,” said Serhiy Derkach.

He added that the Ministry, together with Ukrtransbezpeka, continues to monitor carriers that do not comply with regulatory requirements and do not stop at bus stations. Such carriers will have their routes canceled.

Oleksandr Dyachenko, head of the Internal Road Transportation Department of the Ministry of Economic Development, added that the Ministry is working on a document that will regulate the procedure for opening bus routes and approving bus route passports.

“The route passport is a cornerstone, because it is a documentary reflection of the route. If we digitize the passports of all existing and operating bus routes, install GPS monitoring on all vehicles, check the accuracy of the route through such monitoring and bus stations, we can see our transport network. And this will be done sooner or later,” said Oleksandr Dyachenko.
